About High Plains Steakhouse
High Plains Steakhouse sits on 5640 High Plains Road in Cheyenne, WY 82007, an unpretentious spot that feels like a neighborhood secret with a dash of regional pride. A casual stroll from nearby landmarks leads straight to the front door, where warm lighting and a low hum of conversation set the mood before any food arrives. The dining room leans toward cozy rather than flashy, which works well for an evening focused on serious cooking rather than showmanship.
The menu reads like a love letter to classic steakhouse fare, with a lineup of cuts that includes bone-in ribeye, filet, and a few chef-selected specials that rotate with the seasons. Appetizers range from loaded potato skins to a surprisingly refined house salad. A selection of sides deserves attention on its own: charred Brussels sprouts, buttery mashed potatoes, and a crowd-pleasing mac and cheese that stays creamy without becoming cloying. For anyone who leans toward seafood, there is a smoked trout dish that plays nicely against the heavier beef options.
Cooking leans toward respectful technique: steaks arrive with a good sear and clear attention to doneness, sauces complement the meat rather than overpowering it, and simple compositions highlight flavor instead of hiding it. Drinks include a modest but thoughtful wine list and a handful of cocktails that match the overall earnest approach to dining. Prices sit in a comfortable mid-range for the area, presenting reasonable value given the portion sizes and ingredient quality.
Service moves with friendly efficiency. Staff members handle questions about the menu without rushing and offer suggestions based on what’s popular that night. Local reviews often point to consistent cooking and a welcoming atmosphere, while a few online reviews call out weekend crowds and suggest reservations for larger groups. Those same reviews frequently mention the restaurant's location on High Plains Road as convenient for visitors and locals alike.
A visit to High Plains Steakhouse works well for a relaxed date night or a satisfying meal after a day of exploring Cheyenne. The food sticks to familiar territory, executed with enough care to keep diners coming back. For anyone craving a straightforward steak dinner without fuss, this place will likely hit the right notes while offering a comfortable, Low-key dining experience in a convenient location.

Troy was our server, he is AMAZING! Very attentive, super accommodating to any dietary restrictions, helpful in showing us the specials, and extremely fun personality! We both laughed and he was so kind! We would absolutely ask for him by name again!
The food was absolutely delicious, best salads and steaks ever! The wine was fabulous, the apps were delicious, and everything was fresh!

We didn’t expect much, but we were pleasantly surprised! It’s pricey, like most restaurants located inside casinos, but it was tastier than most casino restaurant meals I’ve had. The service was great, the steak was cooked perfectly, everything was fresh and served hot.

Steaks were over cooked so mine was comped. Pork chop was also way overdone.
Appetizers were amazing. Spinach artichoke and jumbo shrimp
Drinks were terrible. Cocktails are not that difficult but they are only 3 weeks in so we will give them a pass.
Desserts were ok but lack depth of flavor. Blueberry bread cake and some chocolate dish.
Service was good. Tasha was very nice and very knowledgeable. She’s a good hire for sure and takes responsibility for the shortcomings with the kitchen.
New menu coming out 7-19 and I posted it here too.
We will try again once the dust settles
